The Ramblers Association The
Ramblers Association exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone,
the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring, and to promote
respect for the life of the countryside.
We work to further these aims through our campaigning work, regular walking and campaigning events, and through our publications and information services. We have 130,000 members in 423 groups across the country. Many members join simply to show their support for our work, but many others are also active in working and campaigning locally. Members also take part in organised walks, receive copies of the quarterly Rambler magazine and the Ramblers Yearbook and Accommodation Guide. Ramblers groups are organised into Areas, roughly equivalent to counties, and both Areas and groups appoint their own officers. The governing body of the Ramblers is its General Council which consists mainly of delegates appointed by Areas. They elect an Executive Committee which establishes policy and uses funds in pursuit of the association's objectives. There are also Councils for Wales and Scotland, and offices in London, Wales and Scotland. We are a democratic, voluntary organisation, registered as a charity (no.306089). We are not affiliated to any political party and are required by ourconstitution to be non-sectarian.
